When 9-year-old James Zacher won the pie-eating contest for his age division, he jumped up and down, hooting and hollering, with his face covered with blueberry pie.
When asked how he felt after winning, he replied, “Awesome, but my stomach hurts.”
The pie-eating contest was one of the many events at the Mossyrock Blueberry Festival in Klickitat Prairie Park this weekend that drew hundreds of people from throughout the region.
The contest, which took place Saturday afternoon, drew more than 40 participants and an audience of more than 70 people who sat on bales of hay to watch it.
Zacher said he has won the pie-eating contest three out of the last four years. His only strategy to winning, he said, is to “just gulp it down.”
His older sister, Heather, age 14, also won her age division in the pie-eating contest.
In addition to the pie-eating contest Saturday afternoon at the festival, there was also live music, food vendors, weiner dog races and a dog show.
